Motion Editor Explained

Animation with Flash CS4's Motion Editor

Custom Easing in Flash

<<<<<exercises>>>>>

Animated Text (requirements):

  • Animation of text must represent word(s) chosen.
  • Separate letters into individual layers,
  • Must use Classic Tween and Motion Tween,
  • Distribute to Layers,
  • Break Apart text used.
  • Apply Animated Text and Logo Definitions below as necessary.
  • sound effects synched to animation
  • use of foreground / background depth
    storyboards (on paper)

  • Animating Text and Logos Definitions

Fly Together - Animate pieces of the logo so that they fly together, resulting in a normal logo.

Lens Flares and Lasers - Create lens flares on corners of a logos.
Modify the flare's value over several frames from no flare to a bright flare to give the logo a glint of light.

    Bouncing Logos - Use squash and stretch to animate the logo so that it bounces or vibrates excitedly for a few moments;
then hold it still for 5 or 10 seconds. The bouncing will attract the viewer's eye, but the holdd will give them a chance to register the design.

Tumbling - have a logo spin onth the page in an arc and come to rest with a slow in. Better to repeat only once so it is not annoying.

Spinning - Make sure you have logos spin slow enough for them to be read.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------

Scrolling - to move from top to bottom of the screen, as in film credits

Fading In and Out - for titles etc.

In Flight - so that the text appears to zoom onto the screen from anh of an infinite numbers of angles and dimensions.

Rotoscoping - so that frames of animation play within the boundaries of the type.

Morphing - to make the size, shape, weight, or other typographic qualities change over time.

On a Path - so that words and letters follow an invisible curved path across the screen.

Exploding - so that letters or parts of letter break up and fly away on their own trajectories or, in reverse, fly together into readable text.

    Animation Techniques

    .

    <<<<<exercises>>>>>

    Cause & Effect Animation Exercise

Falling / Colliding / Bouncing: Use the following techniques listed below to create a short story. The animation must include the following actions (falling, colliding, bouncing). The object that is the 'subject' of this animation has to be a simple primative (circle, star, square, etc.) No detailed drawing allowed. You may use text letters if you wish. You may have 1 subject and no more than 3 objects (of the collision for example)... Keep it simple. You must use MOTION TWEENING and the MOTION EDITOR! The simple primative just show 'characterization'...

    Midterm Requirements

    E-GREETING CARD

you can look at the following site for samples jacquielawson. The only big requirement from YOUR e-card is that there is a simple story that it provides with a beginning / middle / end that assumes some sort of 'character' and plot.

    Midterm Criteria
    /100% Total points

    CONCEPT REQUIREMENTS

    10% - Color and Composition

    30% - Animation Techniques

    10% Proposal / Storyboard

    .

    TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

    10% - motion / classic / shape tweens

    10% - 2+ camera changes

10% - set design and use of layering (foreground / middle ground / background) and original artwork

    10% - sound (background / foley)

    5% - title/ credits

5% simple play / replay buttons

    Code Snippets (pdf)

    Character Gesture Exercise

Create a simple character and gesture for either of the following 'situations':

    • student worried about midterm
    • person afraid of leaving home

The character should be 'quickly' designed and then animated using your choice of animation types (frame by frame, shape, motion, and or classic). The aim of this exercise is that you complete it in 2 labs (2 classes) and do not take this home to work on it.

You may use 1 prop (such as a door or sheet of paper and desk) to support the idea.

Keep it simple and do not spell it out (with text).

The gesture should express emotion using the techniques in animation you have learned thus far in class!
